Jerry’s Orphans, The Next Generation is a group of people with neuromuscular disabilities, other people with disabilities, and our allies who have come together to protest the resurrection of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) telethon, now called the MDA Kevin Hart Kids’ Telethon, airing on October 24th, 2020. Our names come from the original “Jerry’s Orphans” spearheaded by Mike Ervin to protest the MDA telethon decades ago.

Our vision is to put an end to not only the MDA telethon, but telethons in general, which use tactics of objectification and pity to solicit funds.

We follow in the footsteps (or wheel-tracks) of Mike and Cris Ervin, as well as those fierce activists who are no longer with us, including Laura Hershey, Greg Smith, Harriet McBryde Johnson, Nick Dupree, and so many others.

Activist Harriet McBryde Johnson sits in her wheelchair outside with a man behind her holding a protest sign.
